Getting ticketed for speeding is probably one of the most annoying things that can happen to any driver, and although it can make things really stressful for a while, it’s important to remember that everyone gets speeding traffic tickets every now and again — and there are plenty of ways to beat a speeding ticket if you get one.

- Quite often, speed limit signs are hidden by foliage, buildings, or were simply knocked down because of bad weather. Although a visible sign may have the speed limit posted at another part of the road, it’s possible that you can argue that you were speeding because you didn’t have a clear view (or any view) of an accurate posting. This defense can be a little tricky sometimes — saying “I just didn’t know” is usually not a great defense in court — but if you can prove with pictures that the sign is covered up or not even where it should be, then you have a better chance of getting out of a traffic ticket for driving too fast.
- Sometimes, police officers will give out traffic tickets to drivers who are going the speed limit, but because of poor weather conditions or road conditions, that speed is deemed to be too fast. This is legal and it’s important to remember that speed limits aren’t always absolute, especially in regions where bad weather is common. But if you get ticketed because of this, it’s possible to argue that the police officer’s definition of a “reasonable speed” may be lower than what the court would deem “reasonable.”
- If you get ticketed while driving on a busy highway or congested city, it’s also easy to argue that the police officer didn’t get an accurate reading of your speed limit and likely picked up the speed of other drivers. This defense for fighting speeding tickets can be very effective if you can also prove that the cop wasn’t close to your car, and therefore didn’t get the most accurate reading possible.
